Width over 14 ft: 1 front + 1 rear escort required.
- Lead (front) pilot carover 12 ft width
Width over 12 ft (up to 14 ft): 1 front escort; on 4-lane roads escort follows the load.
- Height-pole escortover 14'5" height
Height over 14'5": 1 front escort with height pole required.
- Lead (front) pilot carover 149,999 lbs GVW weight
GVW over 149,999 lbs: 1 front escort required.
Travel restrictions
- Daylight-only travelover 8'6" width
Oversize loads restricted to sunrise–sunset travel (general commodities).
- Weekend / holiday restrictionover 8'6" width
Overwidth/overheight/overlength loads over 112,000 lbs prohibited noon–noon on Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas weekends.
Driver & inspection requirements
- Certified escort driver requiredover 12 ft width
NC Community College System escort certification required. Accepts FL/GA/OK/WA reciprocal certificates.
