Escort & pilot car requirements

  • Lead (front) pilot carover 25'0" front overhang front overhang

    Front pilot required when front overhang exceeds 25'. Above this threshold load must have front escort independent of overall width (NAC 484D.640).

  • Chase (rear) pilot carover 25'0" rear overhang rear overhang

    Rear pilot required when rear overhang exceeds 25'. Independent of overall width or length triggers (NAC 484D.640).

  • Height-pole escortover 15'6" height

    Front pilot car must carry a clearance-pole/height measuring device for loads over 15'6" tall (NAC 484D.675).

  • Chase (rear) pilot carover 110'0" length

    Rear pilot required when overall length exceeds 110' on any highway. Weekend/holiday max length is 110' (NAC 484D.680).

  • Lead (front) pilot carover 14'0" width

    Front pilot required on 2/3-lane roads for widths 12'1"–14'. On 4+-lane highways, front pilot required only when width exceeds 16' (NAC 484D.640).

  • Chase (rear) pilot carover 14'0" width

    Rear pilot required on 4+-lane roads for widths over 14'. On 2/3-lane roads, rear pilot added when width exceeds 14'. Lead+chase required above 16' on all roads (NAC 484D.640).

  • Daylight-only travelover 14'0" width

    Weekend/holiday travel restricted to widths 14' or less. Weekday max is 17'. Loads over 14'W / 15'H / 110'L are prohibited on Sat/Sun and 12 Nevada holidays (NAC 484D.680).

  • Weekend / holiday restrictionover 14'0" width

    12 Nevada holidays including Nevada Day (last Friday Oct), Family Day (4th Friday Nov), Juneteenth, MLK, Presidents' Day, Veterans' Day, plus 6 federal holidays (NRS 484D.715).
