Suicide lane

A center lane shared by traffic going both directions — for turns or passing.

A 'suicide lane' is a single center lane used by vehicles traveling both directions — either a two-way left-turn lane in the middle of a road, or (in older usage) a center passing lane on a three-lane highway that either direction could pull into. The nickname reflects the head-on risk when two drivers grab it at once. Pilots flag them because a wide load straying into one is dangerous.
