No backstop
Freight carriers can file against a broker's bond when they aren't paid. Pilots have no bond, no payment protection, no guarantee — the load boards even say so: “contact the company directly.” You eat the loss or chase it yourself.
A blacklist by hand
With no real trust system, operators warn each other one Facebook post at a time — “be cautious with this company.” A manual, scattered blacklist is the only protection pilots have. It shouldn't be.

This isn't about bashing brokers
Plenty of honest brokers are stuck in the same broken system, competing against fly-by-nights who win by underpricing because they never intend to pay. Is AmberLight a licensed freight broker?
No. AmberLight is a technology marketplace that connects oversize-load carriers with independent pilot car / escort operators. It is not a freight broker, is not the employer of any operator, and is not a party to the service agreement between a carrier and an operator.
How does AmberLight protect operators from not getting paid?
Carriers pay up front and the funds are held by Stripe when a job is booked. After the job is completed the payout is released to the operator, so pilots aren't chasing invoices or getting stiffed.
How can carriers and shippers fund a booking?
Carriers, owner-operators, and shippers can fund a booking with a wide range of methods, all processed securely through Stripe: digital wallets (Apple Pay, Amazon Pay, Cash App Pay), major cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB), and ACH bank transfer. Pay however works best for your business.
What does AmberLight cost?
Carriers pay no platform fee and no subscription. Operators pay a flat 5% service fee on completed jobs. That's it.
How are operators verified?
Operators build a profile with their credentials — certificates of insurance, certifications, and licenses — stored in a private document vault. Carriers see verification and reliability signals, and every credential view is watermarked and logged.
