Why we built AmberLight

To run a freight brokerage you need federal authority and a $75,000 bond. To broker pilot cars you need nothing— no license, no bond, no backstop. That gap is why good pilots get stiffed and good carriers can't tell a pro from a warm body. We built the protection the industry never had.

The plumbing is broken

No backstop

Freight carriers can file against a broker's bond when they aren't paid. Pilots have no bond, no escrow, no guarantee — the load boards even say so: “contact the company directly.” You eat the loss or chase it yourself.

A blacklist by hand

With no real trust system, operators warn each other one Facebook post at a time — “be cautious with this company.” A manual, scattered blacklist is the only protection pilots have. It shouldn't be.

Anyone can post

On a load board, a company that didn't pay last week is posting new loads today — sometimes under just a first name to stay ahead of the people they owe. Nothing stops them.

For pilot car operators

Get paid when the job's done — like every other trade

  • Escrow, not patience. The carrier's money is held before you roll and released the moment the job's marked complete. No net-30, no “I haven't been paid yet” while they're holding a check that already cleared.
  • The bill is the bill.Your rate — overnights and standby included — is locked at booking and held in escrow. No one slashes $65 an hour to $20 after you've done the work.
  • No middle layer skimming you.Carriers book you directly. No pilot-broker collecting the trucking company's money and “forgetting” to pay you.
  • A reputation that travels.Your badges, ratings, and completed jobs are yours — public and portable, not locked in one broker's rolodex.
For carriers, owner-operators & shippers

Find a pilot you can actually count on

  • Verified identity, built in.Every account is a verified identity with history attached — the exact accountability operators are publicly asking load boards to add. No booking a “Ken” with no last name.
  • Reliability you can see.On-time and no-show history follows the operator, so the pilot who no-showed a superload can't quietly rebook with you next week.
  • Qualified isn't a guess. Capability tags — lead, chase, high pole, steer, route survey — plus verified credentials and equipment. “I need a lead and a chase” can't be answered by someone who can only do one.
  • Credentials carried, not claimed. COI and cert are verified on the profile — not a PDF you have to phone an insurer to trust, and never a counterfeit that makes it onto a job.

This isn't about bashing brokers

Plenty of honest brokers are stuck in the same broken system, competing against fly-by-nights who win by underpricing because they never intend to pay. The fix isn't a better middleman — it's removing the float and the opacity. AmberLight holds the money in escrow and puts the track record in the open, so trust is built into the rails instead of riding on a phone call. A flat 5% each side, only on jobs that pay.
