  • Chase (rear) pilot carover 14'6" width

    Width over 14'6" up to and including 16'6": rear escort on 4-lane. Chart verbatim: "Width | Over 14'6" up to and including 16'6" | ... | rear * | front" (761 IAC 511.20(2)) — on a 2-LANE road the escort is a FRONT escort, and the asterisk on the 4-lane cell means "In lieu of an escort, a carrier can display an amber light or strobe light on the power unit and on the rear extremity of the vehicle or load." EXCLUSIVE.

  • Height-pole escortover 14'6" height

    Height over 14'6" up to and including 20': front escort with a height pole on BOTH 2-lane and 4-lane roads. Chart verbatim: "Height | Over 14'6" up to and including 20' | ... | front with a height pole | front with a height pole" (761 IAC 511.20(2)). A pole is standard kit for any Iowa front escort: "A pole used for measuring vertical clearances is mounted on the front escorting vehicle" (511.20(1)(j)). EXCLUSIVE.

EXCLUSIVE at 12'0", so the FT(12) encoding is correct and was left alone. CORRECTED 2026-09-14: the previous text claimed a front AND rear escort above 14'6", which the chart does not say — above 14'6" Iowa still asks for one escort.
