Chase car (rear pilot)

The pilot car that travels behind the load.

The chase car (or rear escort) follows the oversize load. It shields the back of the load from faster traffic, manages vehicles trying to pass, and watches the trailer and rear overhang. States typically add a rear escort requirement at greater widths or lengths than the front-escort threshold, and for long combinations.
