Route survey

A pre-trip drive of the planned route to confirm an oversize load can physically make it.

A route survey is a drive of the planned route before the move to verify the load will clear every bridge, underpass, turn, traffic signal, and utility line. The surveyor measures vertical and horizontal clearances and flags problem spots so the carrier can re-route or arrange utility lifts. Surveys are commonly billed hourly (around $85–100/hr) or per mile and are often required for superloads.
